San Diego Physician Turns a Common Patient Problem Into a New Vein-Tracking App

Dr. Nisha Bunke created the free VeinTrack app to help patients track leg symptoms and share meaningful trends with their healthcare providers.

Patients often don’t connect symptoms, like nighttime cramps with their veins. I created VeinTrack to give patients a simple way to track symptoms and bring meaningful information to their doctor.”

SAN DIEGO, CA, UNITED STATES, September 22, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nisha Bunke, MD, a board-certified vein specialist and Medical Director of La Jolla Vein & Vascular, has launched VeinTrack, a free mobile app designed to help patients track and communicate symptoms related to their leg and vein health.

The idea grew from a problem Dr. Bunke has encountered repeatedly during nearly two decades of treating varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency: patients often don’t realize that symptoms they experience in their legs may be related to their veins.

“Patients may recognize a visible varicose vein but not connect symptoms such as aching, heaviness, swelling, nighttime leg cramps or restless legs with an underlying vein problem,” said Dr. Bunke. “I wanted to give patients an easy way to track what they’re experiencing over time and bring that information to their doctor.”

Turning Symptoms Into a Record Patients Can Share

Remembering how often symptoms occurred—or whether they improved or worsened over several weeks—can be difficult.

VeinTrack allows patients to record symptoms over time rather than relying on memory at their next appointment. Users can track pain, swelling, compression stocking use, medications, treatments, movement and other wellness information and generate reports they can share with their healthcare providers.

“Instead of trying to remember how your legs felt three weeks ago, you have a record,” said Dr. Bunke. “That can create a much more meaningful conversation between a patient and their healthcare provider.”

Helping Patients Document Compression Stocking Use

VeinTrack also addresses an important part of the vein-treatment process: documenting conservative management.

Depending on the insurance plan and proposed treatment, insurers may require patients to complete and document conservative measures before authorizing certain vein procedures. This can include wearing graduated compression stockings for a specified period.

VeinTrack allows patients to record compression stocking use alongside their symptoms, creating an organized record that can be printed and shared with their physician.

“For patients asked to wear compression stockings, it can be difficult to remember exactly which days they wore them and whether their symptoms changed,” said Dr. Bunke. “VeinTrack gives them one place to document both.”

More Than a Symptom Diary

Designed specifically around vein health, VeinTrack also includes a Vein Health Score, clinical vein-health questionnaires and tools for following changes over time.

Patients can track:

Leg symptoms, including pain and swelling
Compression stocking use
Medications and treatments
Hydration and movement
Vein health scores and questionnaires
Changes and trends over time

Users can then generate printable reports to bring to medical appointments.

“An app doesn’t diagnose venous disease or replace a medical evaluation or vascular ultrasound,” said Dr. Bunke. “It’s a tool to help patients become more aware of their vein health, document what they’re experiencing and communicate that information more effectively with their healthcare providers.”

Free on the Apple App Store

VeinTrack is free to download and currently available for iPhone on the Apple App Store.

The app is designed for people experiencing leg symptoms or varicose veins, patients undergoing evaluation or treatment for venous disease, and anyone who wants a better way to follow their vein health over time.
