Peer-selected recognition honors leaders who strengthen the national security community through collaboration, innovation, and mission-focused engagement
HERNDON, VA, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — John Binks has been recognized as one of OrangeSlices’ 2027 Engage National Security 150 Honorees, an annual recognition of leaders who are making a meaningful impact across the national security community through collaboration, engagement, innovation, and service to the mission.
As technology and artificial intelligence continue to reshape how government agencies operate, acquire capabilities, and address increasingly complex missions, OrangeSlices notes that relationships, trust, shared knowledge, and collaboration across traditional organizational boundaries remain essential.
The 2027 Engage National Security 150 recognizes executives and leaders who are helping strengthen those connections.
Selected with input from peers and members of the broader national security community, honorees are recognized not simply for the positions they hold, but for how they engage with others. They share knowledge and perspective, make meaningful connections, create opportunities for others, contribute their time and expertise, and help strengthen the government and industry community supporting the national security mission.
The 2027 honorees represent organizations and missions spanning the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice, law enforcement, cybersecurity, border and transportation security, emergency management, and the broader national security ecosystem.
“I’m incredibly honored to be recognized among the 2027 Engage National Security 150, especially because this recognition comes from peers within the community,” said John Binks. “The national security mission is bigger than any one company, organization, or individual. Progress happens when people share what they know, build trusted relationships, connect others, and work together to solve difficult problems. I’m grateful to be included alongside so many professionals who consistently show up, contribute, and help move the mission forward.”
Binks is a technologist, business leader, public speaker, and award-winning, best-selling author whose career has focused on the intersection of technology, leadership, government missions, and organizational transformation.
His experience includes senior leadership within the Federal Government, where he served in technology leadership roles at the Department of Homeland Security, as well as executive and business-development positions supporting the Federal and national security markets. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of government requirements and industry capabilities, helping organizations evaluate emerging technologies and translate complex technology into practical mission outcomes. His previous OrangeSlices recognition highlighted his ability to connect policy, operations, technology, and innovation.
Binks is also known for making complex technology topics easier to understand. Through his books, speaking engagements, professional activities, and Bots & Bosses platform, he focuses on artificial intelligence, emerging technology, leadership, business transformation, and the evolving relationship between people and technology.
Nominated by Peers. Selected by Peers.
A defining characteristic of the Engage recognition program is its peer-driven selection process.
According to OrangeSlices, Engage leaders are nominated by individuals who have seen their impact firsthand and are then evaluated through a peer-review process. Selection is not based simply on title, company size, revenue, or visibility. Instead, it reflects the reputation leaders have developed through participation, collaboration, contribution, and their willingness to help others succeed.
Nominees are evaluated against six core characteristics:
– Open Communication: Sharing knowledge, insights, and lessons learned to strengthen the broader community.
– Mission-Focused Thinking: Looking beyond individual organizational interests and keeping the Federal mission at the center of decision-making.
– Reliable Partnership: Building trust through collaboration, accountability, humility, and follow-through.
– Community Presence: Actively participating through events, working groups, mentorship, introductions, and other forms of engagement.
– Perspective-Seeking: Seeking different experiences, expertise, and viewpoints to support stronger decisions and outcomes.
– Innovation-Minded: Challenging assumptions, exploring new technologies and approaches, and helping organizations prepare for what comes next.
