Hummingbird, the orchestration platform for financial crime compliance, today introduced two new AI agents: the Research Agent and the Review Agent. Together, these agents automate the bulk of routine compliance work – gathering intelligence, documenting evidence, and filling out cases – while keeping human analysts fully in control.
Compliance teams are under tremendous pressure to operate more efficiently, and AI promises to close the gap. This has resulted in a wave of standalone AI agents touting time-saving automation, but operating in isolation without shared data, context, or controls. The result is a fragmented patchwork of agents, where coordination and oversight are needed.
Hummingbird takes a different approach, offering the first orchestration platform for AI agents and human analysts. The platform unifies data, workflows, and governance to enable seamless orchestration across a compliance program. AI agents and human analysts work together; they share the same context, follow the same procedures, and contribute to a single audit trail.
Hummingbird’s Research and Review Agents operate within the newly expanded platform:
- The Research Agent gathers intelligence about relevant entities. Where most agents stop at external sources, the Research Agent pulls from an institution’s internal data – querying for transaction history, linked accounts, and more, and searching Hummingbird for connections to prior cases and known subjects. Combined with deep web research, the Research Agent produces a uniquely comprehensive due diligence report.
- The Review Agent uses the compiled research and any associated data to complete the case. The agent works through cases with the consistency and thoroughness of a trained analyst, faithfully applying an institution’s policies and procedures. Teams can expand the agent’s autonomy at their own pace, graduating from recommendations to decisions, with built-in workflows for human approval and quality checks.
In addition to the new agents, Hummingbird AI is now available both directly within the platform and over API. Inside Hummingbird, the AI agents work alongside human analysts in the same workflow. Over API, the AI outputs are delivered into an institution’s current case management system, allowing for access to Hummingbird AI as an additive solution to existing tooling. In both cases, the orchestration layer remains the same; only how the output is accessed changes.
“Pointing AI at a compliance program is easy. Doing it in a way that survives internal scrutiny and regulatory exams is a different challenge,” said Joe Robinson, co-founder and CEO of Hummingbird. “Compliance teams need a shared foundation on which their AI agents and human analysts operate. It’s this essential orchestration layer that actually makes compliance work faster to complete and more defensible. That’s what we’re building at Hummingbird.”
