Jon Swenson, an attorney with more than 20 years of wide-ranging experience in representing technology companies in patent, copyright, trade secret and commercial disputes, has joined the business litigation firm of Cadwell Thomas LLP in Houston.
Mr. Swenson has led matters across the full life cycle of litigation, from pre-suit investigations through trial, and he is known for developing practical, business-oriented strategies that align legal outcomes with broader company objectives. His work frequently involves technically sophisticated subject matter and multi-jurisdictional considerations, and he has represented leading communications technology companies in more than 50 patent matters with billions of dollars in dispute.
“I practiced with Jon for many years and am thrilled that he has made this move. Jon was instrumental in helping build and develop our office when we worked together in the Silicon Valley, and he will be a crucial part of what we offer our clients now,” says firm founder Kevin Cadwell. “Jon’s expertise—particularly in high-tech litigation—will further strengthen our capabilities, and his insights and counsel will be highly valuable for our clients.”
In addition to litigation, Mr. Swenson advises clients on transactions, acquisitions, intellectual property strategy and risk management. He also represents clients in post-grant proceedings and reviews before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, achieving a 100% success rate for both patent owners and challengers in IPR proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
“I’ve worked with Kevin on dozens of cases; he is a fantastic trial lawyer and provides exceptional client service. I’m excited to continue to work with him and other members of the firm to provide superior service and results. My clients will certainly benefit from their experience and expertise,” says Mr. Swenson.
Previously, Mr. Swenson was a partner in the Palo Alto office of Baker Botts for more than a decade before moving to Bend, Oregon, to represent select technology clients as a solo practitioner. Licensed in multiple state and federal jurisdictions, he earned his law degree with high honors from the Santa Clara University School of Law and his undergraduate degree from California State University in Sacramento.
Cadwell Thomas supports a wide range of business sectors in complex commercial disputes, intellectual property matters, and corporate transactions. Backed by previous tenures at major international law firms, the attorneys represent some of the most intriguing and promising startups, as well as Fortune 100 companies.
